Itinerary
Itinerary No. 1 - Passo Barca – Lungomare – Faro Rosso
Lignano Sabbiadoro
The itinerary begins at the docking point of the integrated tourist transport service called "Passo Barca" or "X-River," managed by TPL FVG.
This eco-sustainable mobility service, which crosses the two banks of the Tagliamento River, connects the cycle paths in the municipality of Lignano with the wider network of cycling routes in the region, allowing access to the naturalistic trails in the area.
In 2024, the service operates daily until September 30, and from October 5, it runs on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays until November 3 (2024 schedule).
We start the route leaving the Tagliamento River behind us. Taking Via Punta Tagliamento and continuing along Viale Adriatico, we reach the cycling path that connects Lungomare Riccardo Riva with Lungomare Alberto Kechler, linking Lignano Riviera to Lignano Pineta. Along Lungomare Kechler, it is possible to admire works created by the Mosaic School of Friuli in Spilimbergo, displayed on the walls of various beach offices, each inspired by a different artist.
The first must-see stop along the route is the Ponte Ardito, dedicated to the patron and founder of Lignano Pineta. Near the bridge, there is access to the Pontile a Mare, a long and scenic walkway over the water that leads to the Pagoda, a refreshment point built on an octagonal platform in the middle of the water. A timeless symbol of Lignano Pineta beach, the Pagoda offers breathtaking 360° views.
Continuing along the route, you enter the Bella Italia EFA Village cycling and walking path, where the historic Pineta baths (the circular structures) are located. From here, crossing the dunes leads directly to the sea. After completing this segment, the cycling path continues along Lungomare Trieste to Lungomare Marin, skirting the beaches of Lignano Sabbiadoro and allowing for the exploration of other highlights of the area.
The first must-visit stop is the famous Terrazza a Mare, a symbol of this seaside destination. Inaugurated in 1972, it features a long elevated pedestrian walkway over the beach, partially covered, ending in a majestic white shell-shaped structure with vaulted roofs and a 360° panoramic viewpoint.
The second stop is the historic Villa Zuzzi, an Art Nouveau building that served as the town’s first municipal headquarters until the early 1970s, when the current municipal building on Viale Europa was completed.
Following Lungomare Marin to Piazzale Gregorutti, you will find two WWII bunkers. Looking toward the sea, you can spot the historic Red Lighthouse. Recently restored, this old lighthouse, which served as a navigational reference point for many years, is located at the easternmost tip of Lignano Sabbiadoro. To the left of the historic lighthouse, a newer lighthouse has been built in a similar architectural style, extending further out to sea thanks to a long wooden walkway. This scenic viewpoint offers a stunning panorama of the meeting of the waters of the Marano Lagoon and the Adriatic Sea. The walkway, damaged by a storm, is scheduled for restoration.
