Event
60th Edition of the Alpe Adria International Tournament - Italian Under 13 and Under 15 Weightlifting Championships
Lignano Sabbiadoro
11/26/2026
The most important international weightlifting event organized in Friuli Venezia Giulia in the current Olympic quadrennial. It is the most prestigious international weightlifting tournament, founded in 1965 by Marcello Zoratti (Friuli Venezia Giulia), David Koffel (Carinthia), and Janko Groselj (formerly Yugoslavia, now Slovenia).
It currently features the participation of three national teams—Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Slovenia—and four regional teams: Veneto (ITA), Friuli Venezia Giulia (ITA), Niederösterreich (AUT), and Zalaegerszeg (HUN).
Marcello Zoratti Having passed away in 2023, he is unanimously recognized as the "father" of Regional, National, and European weightlifting of the latter half of the last century, having served for over 25 years as vice-president of both the Italian and European Weightlifting Federations.
He was one of the visionary pioneers who successfully transformed Lignano into the "City of Sport" of Friuli Venezia Giulia, having organized the European and World Weightlifting Championships there in 1981. Following their great organizational success—for the only time in the history of international weightlifting—they were reassigned three years later to the same city: Lignano in 1984. In subsequent years, Zoratti organized a rich series of major international weightlifting events in the seaside town, notably the 23rd edition of the Alpe Adria International Weightlifting Tournament in 1987 and the European Promotion Cup in 1997.
To duly commemorate his memory, it was decided to organize a "Weightlifting Weekend" in Lignano, featuring the premier International Weightlifting Tournament—the 60th edition of the Alpe Adria International Tournament—and the most important FIPE national youth competition: the Italian Under-13 and Under-15 Weightlifting Championships.
